Getting Started with Home Groups:

Why should I be a part of a Home Group?

Home groups at First Assembly exist to help you grow up to full maturity in your relationship with God and others. It can also be a great time of fun and fellowship.

When religious leaders asked Jesus what was most important He answered them simply, "love God and love people."  With that answer, Jesus defined spiritual maturity in relational terms and that's our goal with home groups. If you are ready to connect with other people, belong to something meaningful, life-changing and grow in your walk with God, then maybe it's time to get involved in a Home Group.

 What is a Home Group?

A Home Group is typically made up of six to eighteen people who meet regularly during the week to share about their lives, support one another, and study Biblical truths. Each group has a Host and a Leader (this may be the same person). Groups meet typically in homes, but could meet in a number of different locations around Greater Lafayette. Groups usually meet in the evening in place of our Sunday evening service, but others choose to meet at lunchtime. Our goal is to accommodate the different needs of those in our church by offering a variety of options.

What do Home Groups do?

The answer to this question can vary from group to group, but most groups have a time of fellowship, prayer, Bible and/or book study, discussion and life application. Many of the groups meeting Sunday evening share a carry-in meal. Most groups study the same thing; a topic facilitated by the Leader with discussion as provided by our Pastor for Home Groups, Shawn Sowers.

How do I find a Home Group?

Our Home Groups offer a wide variety to choose from based on age, whether you prefer a group of your own age, a variety of ages, etc. There are groups that meet in homes that have children and others that do not. There are groups that will be just around the corner from your house and others across town. Just contact Pastor Shawn or Valerie Sowers at sowers@firstag.org. They'll be happy to get you plugged-in with a group that will meet your needs.
