First Assembly Christian Academy offers kindergarten to both ages 4 and 5. The classes for those age 4 are half-day and for students age 5 are full day. The classes are unique, in that students will experience cursive writing and the reading of sentences and books by the end of the school session. In addition, students are introduced to Spanish.

  

  K(4) - Half Day Curriculum

  • Name, picture and sound recognition for consonants and short vowels
  • Cursive writing of all letters, blends, words and sentences
  • Recognition of capital letters and sentence ending punctuation
  • Reading beginning and ending blends, as well as one vowel words
  • Number recognition through 30
  • "Before /after" numbers and "greater or less than" numbers through 20
  • Beginning addition facts
  

  K(5) - Full Day Curriculum

  • Formation of all letters, blends, words and sentences in cursive
  • Recognition of name, sound and picture of long and short vowels and all consonants
  • Sounding of blends and words with one or two vowels along with words with special sounds
  • Reading of sentences, stories and books
  • Science: plants, animals, earth, space, health and human biology.
  • Social Studies: community helpers, children of the world, America (maps, famous people and places)
  • Arithmetic:
    • Number recognition through 100
    • "Before /after" numbers and "greater or less than" numbers through 100
    • Counting by 2's, 5's and 10's to 100
    • Use of number words
    • Values of coins and dollar bills
    • Telling time
    • Using the calendar
    • Addition facts through 10
    • Subtraction through 5
    • One step story problems
  • Spanish
    • Learn colors, weather words, school terms
    • Common verbs and nouns
    • A foundation is built through the 12th grade and will graduate with a functional second language skill
